High School, You Should Try It!
That time is near, and its coming around the corner faster than you think. Don’t you remember just going in for 6th grade orientation? Now its time for 9th Grade orientation. Doesn’t matter which school you go to, the change is the same for everyone. New school, new friends, new teachers, new classes, new everything. Everything changes, whether you want it to or not.
For most of us, we’re probably going to the high school across the street, others might be going off to some foreign school in the middle of nowwhere, and some might be going across town. I remember ever since 5th grade I wanted to go to the school across the street, mainly because my sister went there. In 6th grade, my mother bought home one of those Magnet School booklets. I threw it right away, I didn’t want to go to one of those at all. Then this year comes, I get the booklet, and I actually read it. Before I new it i was at one of the orientations and my mum had called the school and set up a Shadow appoinment for me. I’m really not sure what to do. If I go to that Magnet School, I’ll be going into something I really love doing, but no one I know is going there. If I go the school across the street, I’ll be with all my friends be able to do the thing I love, and do a lot of other things they offer, but it wont be the same as actually learning about something you love. At the Magnet school, 1/4 of your day is dedicated to the field you go into. Thats pretty good. They still teach to core subjects, too, but you learn about a field you want to do. for me, I applied for the Acting field. The school is a Performance Arts school, and those who know me no I do nothing else but always something in the performance arts. I’m really into acting, and hope to take it further. It was a really hard desicion, though. You could onyl apply to one of the fields, and I was torn between acting and singing. Took me forever to decide to go for acting. I’m in love with both of the things, but I would still be able to sing in a chorus, just focus on acting. This High School is really great, and I’m glad I applied, but Im still nto sure if im going, if I even get in, that is. Thats the only thing Im scared about. Where am I going to go! If I dont get in, im deffinetly going to the school across from us…but theres this feeling inside that reallys wants me to get accepted into the Magnet School…

Go for what your heart really wants. If you make it into your performance arts school, of course I’ll be happy for you. You’re my friend, and I want you to follow what your heart says. And if you come to the “school across the street” I’d be thrilled. But no matter what, do what you want. I know you’d never be someone to do something just because everyone else is doing it. So do follow your dreams, and good luck with acting if you attend that school. You have a future in acting, and if that’s what can get you closer to that successful future, I’ll be right behind you 110%.
Posted February 6, 2008, 3:35 pmWow I never new that you wanted to go to a magent school to pursure acting. Well thats really amazing and if I had to give you any advice I would say just to go for it and I am being a total hypocrit for saying that. Friends will come and go, and being comfortable is only a temporary feeling. Your friends you have now chances are won’t be friends with you by the time you enter college and if acting is something you really love you should go for it because you could be like a famous acting or something lol and not going would be missing out on that oppurtunity. I wouldn’t not go just because you want to be with your friends because not to be mean, giving up a dream because of them isn’t worth it. I wish I had the guts to go to a private school but the thing is, I wanted to go but I didn’t really have a reason or a passion to go and it seems like you have that. Well, I hope I at least made a okay point…I hope wherever you decide to go you do a good job and I know if you went to a private school that would be weird I’ve been used to seeing you in school since what …. 2nd 3rd grade idk!?!? Anyway yeah, ending insanely long comment.
Posted February 6, 2008, 3:36 pmYou really have a big decision on your hands! I have heard how much you like acting, so this magnet school sounds perfect for you. I had the same problem choosing between the public school and a private schools. I was really interested in applying to all these really expensive privite schools, but soon I realized all the work to apply was way to much. I mean they want you to take a test, fill out a five page application, get excellent grades, and being able to pay for it. Many of these things I could not do. First of all they cost way to much money, and I would be leaving my friends. The magnet school seems perfect. From what I have heard, they are free and you do not have to fill out an application. I wish I had heard about these before. Good luck next year.
