Tale As Old As Time….Song As Old As Rhyme….

…Beauty and the Beast…..

So this weekend my high school performed Beauty and the Beast which I was in, and it went absolutly amazing! until the last show…. but we still pulled it off.

During the last show, the lights didn’t work. All we had were the 2 spot lights and the house light on. Regardless, we paused the show after the opening song, Belle, to figure it out. We got the emergency lights working on stage, but the house lights wouldn’t turn off. As they sayd, the show must go on! And it did. And by doing so, we proved that even with technical difficulties, we were a strong enough cast to make it work. During intermission, they finally got the house lights off and all the lights came back and we performed another amazing show. I can’t believe its over, it all went to fast!

Before the last show, its a tradition to do certain things, and one is speeches. Of course, it was very emotional and everyone was crying. I held it together until Steve, our cute little boy who played Chip, made a speech. I completely lost it because he is a little 5th grader who wont be able to do anymore shows with us and everyone will be gone by the time he gets up here, and he said I will never see you again but I will never forget any of you. Then he started crying and there wasn’t a dry eye backstage!

All in all, this was an amazing show to perform and the cast became so close in such few weeks. I will never forget any of you. <3

I Chose my Fate on the First Day of High School….

So I was thinking about something that happened to me on my first day of High School, and realized that I was stuck with it for the whole year.

I was standing outside on that warm August  morning when the bus came to pick me up. Turns out, I was the second stop, so there was absolutly nobody on the bus. Being a freshman, I didn’t want to upset any upperclassmen by taking their seats so I sat 3 rows in on the left hand side (if your facing the front). When we got to my friends stop (she was like the 5th stop) she sat next to me, also scared out of her mind. Turns out, every day after that, we always sat in that same seat, along with the rest of the passengers. Everyone always sat in the same seat they did on the first day of school. Even in the afternoon, everyone sits in that same seat. Now, I find this pretty odd. I remember in Middle School everyone hated having assigned seats if you were on that unlucky bus that was forced to have assigned seats. So, why do we act like we have assigned seats? Isn’t HighSchool all about freedom? Or are we scared for change? If one person decided to change their seat, maybe to the one right next to them, would all chaos erupt? I sat in the same seat for about a week, not wanting to move or take someone elses seat, figuring I’ll change it up every day or so. Who knew I would be sitting in the same seat every day for the rest of the year. Well, the second half starts on Wednesday, and I think I’ll be that person who sits in a different seat and will change things up a bit.

Beauty and the Beast…..

Ok, so today during 7th period they must have posted the List, and it totally took us by surprise. Now, if your like me, the List can be the most wonderful, or the must awful thing ever. Like I said earlier in other posts, I audition for my school production of Beauty and the Beast, got a callback, and had to wait all Winter Break to know the results.

It was during Spanish class when it must have went up, because it wasn’t there before Spanish. I came out of my class heading towards the cafeteria with my friend who also tried out and we both stopped dead in our tracks when we saw 2 bright yellow papers taped to the auditorium doors. Of course, we ran over and began looking. My eyes first went to the Ensemble/Dancers/Villagers list, thinking my name was most likely there. When I realized my name wasn’t on that list, I started freaking out. So then my friend and I went through all the names of characters, recognizing everyone since they were our friends. Then finally, I saw my name. I followed the dots across and the character who I was to be playing was ‘Lady With Baby/Ensemble’ Oh dear….. Then I was again flipping out because I had gotten a part! Its a small one im tkaing, because I never heard of it, but its a part! Good start, seeing as im only a freshman. My friend also got a part, being one of the ‘3 Silly Girls’  We then noticed a LOT of people got cut. It was surprising. The lead who is Belle has a sister who im friends with, and she didn’t get in even though she has a good voice. The direct said that this was VERY hard to choose. I guess now im so thankful for even getting a part, even if I have a baby. At least I get to be in the ensemble which is fun! I can’t wait till next week when rehersals start.

Apparently…. I heard a rumor there is a cake in my freezer……for this part? Really? I guess since I was only 1 out of 5 freshman who got a part out of a hugee cast….thats pretty good. Right?

Callbacks! Part Deux

So today was the snow date for my callbacks for our production of Beauty and the Beast. It was really fun, I had to read the part of the wardrobe, a french kinda wardrobe…thing….but it was fun.

I didn’t need to stay for the singing because the director already heard me the first time and hears me in chorus class, so thats all good.

Since where on the topic of musicals, one of my best friends went to go see Phantom of the Opera in NY this weekend. I was extremely jealous! She got a backstage tour because she has connections… (shhhh) and was talking with the Phantom! Apperently she mentioned I was an actress and loved it and he said Hey why dont I sign something for her. !!!!!!!. So he took out a picture of him and it says, “To Sara, Best Wishes and Good Luck, Howard McGillin”  !!!!!!!!! She didn’t even ask him to do this, he offered. !!!!!!!!!!!!. I almost cried. A Broadway actor signed something to me without being asked! I gave my friend a bazillion bear hugs. Its the best Christmas gift I’ve gotten. <3

Christmas is in 4 Days , Happy Holidays Everyone!

Callbacks!

I was out Wed and Thursday from school because I’ve had this really bad stomch bug (it wasn’t pretty, lets say). One of my friends said they posted a list from auditions on the auditorium door saying callbacks. My name was on it!! I was reallllly surprised, because I only tried out for a part in the chorus, not wanting a big part my first year. Apperently they liked me and want a callback! They’re tomorrow and I’m really excited. I read a really interesting blog post i’m finding on a lot of blogs call How Many Of Me? Its really interesting- You type in your name and se how many have that name!

  • There are 350,281 people in the U.S. with the first name Sara.
  • Statistically the 168th most popular first name.
  • More than 99.9 percent of people with the first name Sara are female.
  • There are 835,168 people in the U.S. with your last name. (Sickk!)
  • Statistically the 16th most popular last name.

There are 956 people in the U.S. with my name.

Thats so cool!

“Is this home? Is this where I should learn to be happy….?”

Oi! Its that awesome time of year again when the Spring Musical is just beginning! Today we had Auditions for Beauty and the Beast….welll Part 1 of Auditions anyways. There were a lot of people (Surprise! There usually no one who tries out…) so it went by so slowly. I was pretty nervous all day, but then I had to keep telling myself if I could do a call back for Seussical the Musical in front of 50 people, singing the hardest song, then I could sing this. So I was sitting in the auditorium with all my friends and we did the acting portion where we did a scene with two other people. I was one of the last sets to go, but luckily I had one other friend with me. It was really funny as I was walking up to the stage because some people who did Its A Wonderful Life with me for our drama production started screaming MARRRYY? MARRRRRRRRYYYYYYY! It was one of my lines from it and they all thought it was a real funny way I did it and loved it so all said it. Wow this is going far but in short- we only got through the acting part today- singing is tomorrow!! Ah im excited! Im not nervous anymore since I’ve done this many times, now its just to see if I get a part!!

Ahhhhhhhhh :(

So, these past two days we had our Fall Drama Production, Its A Wonderful Life, performed. I can’t believe its all over :( This all went by so fast, but at least it was the best first play I did in high school. I was actually really surprised when I got a part alllll the way back to the beginning, because I didn’t know the directors, didn’t know anyone who was running it, so everything was based on talent for me, unlike everything usually was in Middle school because the directer already knew what I could do, since I had been with her for 3 years. Anyways, a few days after auditions I got a call back for the role of Young George. During the callback I asked if those who don’t get this part are still going to be in the play, and the director said most likely not. I really started worrying then. Then after call backs I was waiting around for me ride and saw they posted the cast list. I was really nervous and looked at it and found out I had gotten the role of Mrs. Hatch, Marys Mother. I was soooo excited because I had gotten a part! Over the next many weeks, rehearsals were a blast, the cast became a family, everyone cried at the first and last show, seniors were a mess, and the directors cried too. The tradition still stands for the banging on the lockers when the directors walk in. Im really sad its all over wiht already, but at least I have to musical to look forward to for now :)

‘It’s A Wonderful Life’……really…..

So, going off what I said in my last post (and yes- I DID finish my biology project and got an A on it) This coming Friday and Sat, the 7th and 8th, Im going to be performing in It’s A Wonderful Life at my school. The whole show is in black and white, which is a first for us, and its really exciting. Rehearsals are NOT too perfect just yet, but we have night rehearsals on Monday and Tuesday because there is no school on those two days. We really need to work on projecting mainly, but were getting our mics next week which will help. Im sooo excited, but also sad its already coming to an end. Then, I will just have to wait until the Spring Musical- Beauty and the Beast. Performing is basically my life. I’ve been singing since I was little and in chorus since 4th grade. Then when I hit 6th grade, I started performing in plays, and in 7th grade my school did their first musical since the old directer left about 5 or 6 years ago. Since then, I knew I always wanted to be performing. I get to meet and be really good friends with so many awesome people. We become one big family over the many weeks or rehearsing, that even though we can reallly hate each other during rehearsals (believed me, drama geeks get VERY mad when you miss que’s or forget lines, but its easily forgotten because EVERYONE does it. I think I have something that I really want to do in life. I was so close getting into a school for the arts, and actually got in, but it was really late in the summer when they accepted me and I was already excited about going to the public highschool. I had everything ready and went to orientation and everything then I found out I got in, but just couldnt go after seeing all my friends again. I hope to someday go to a good college for acting, and see what happens from there. It really is a wonderful life when im on stage with a big family during that final curtain call and everyone starts balling their eyes out :)

Wow. Time goes by so fast!

Well, its been a while since I have actually written a blog post! I’ve been so busy with a lot of things, I totally loose track of time. My school is doing Its a Wonderful Life for our fall drama production, and the whole show is in black and white! Our skin and hair is being colored gray and black! It seems like just the other day I was trying out with one of my friends(luckily we got picked to do the audition together), and now theres only 2 weeks until the show! Im actually supposed to be doing my biology homework right now, but procrastination takes over me. Plus its not due until Friday and I havent written a post in SOOOOO long so its OK ;) AND! My birthday is already coming up! It was a year ago but it seems like last week! Its October 23, actually. 2 days away! I can’t believe im going to be 15……Time just flies by!!!
